Salmon patties are having a bit of a revival lately. They are even back on the menu in chic little lunch bars.
We are big on salmon patties in this household. They are one of Maus’ specialties and Maus doesn’t have many specialities ….
When Maus was doing all the cooking, after she retired and I was still working, we had salmon patties a lot … Anyway, that is by the way.
Maus makes her salmon patties with potato; so did my mum and so do the chic little lunch bars referred to above, so when the Doc posted a recipe for salmon patties that didn’t include potatoes, I was a wee bit interested. I showed Maus the recipe and a couple of days later she was on to it.
They were very tasty and held their shape well so, if you are a bit of a salmon patty fan and usually make them out of mashed potato, check out the Doc’s recipe for something different. Here is the link.
For those who don’t know, cilantro is coriander and Doc’s tablespoons are 15 mils not 20 mils. Maus used a 425g tin of salmon in brine.
Hi Glenda! I don’t use potato either. For me, chives instead of celery, and the addition of sweet chili sauce!
Louise, I wonder whether the potato is an Australian thing. I have never had salmon patties without potato until we had these. I think chives and sweet chili sauce would be a fab alternative.
I have a recipe with potato as well. One reason I prefer the non-potato recipe is that it is simply less work!
Hi Louise. You are so right. It just never occurred to me. In my family salmon patties have always been potato based.
Just a few days ago, a friend asked it I had a good salmon patty (cake) recipe. I didn’t but I do now. Thanks, Glenda. I’m going to send him the link.
Hi John, The Doc will be pleased. It is nice when someone tries one of your recipes.

Maus is a treasure, I’m a bit troubled that you’re happy to give her away to anonymous commenters, Glenda! Better to send her to us instead – we adore salmon patties! 🙂
Hee hee, Celia, you would be sorry, though she does make a mighty salmon patty!!
The salmon is quite a fish, is he not? And quite a world traveler – at least in reputation. Thanks for giving this one a try.
No probs, Doc. As I said, we love salmon patties in this household.
I love the potato salmon patty and would Never tire of those carby lovelies ! Maus should come live with me!
Hi Anonymous, She is yours!!
Yes, I love salmon patties so this one can go into Deb’s collection to make.
Maus and Deb should compare specialities. It might broaden their repertoire:)
