Apricot Gem is a Floribunda rose. It is a low growing rose with double, intense, apricot blooms that are borne in clusters.
As its height at maturity is low, it is ideal for a patio or at the edge of a garden bed. Continue reading

Pomponella is a Floribunda rose with dark pink, rounded flowers that have an old fashioned look to them. The plant was actually named for its pompom-like flowers. Pomponella also has gorgeous, plump, round buds. Continue reading
Blueberry Hill is a Floribunda Rose.
Blueberry Hill produces clusters of large, semi-double (12-15 petals) lilac blooms. They have a lovely, fruity fragrance with, supposedly, a hint of apple but, try as I might, I can’t recognise any apple. Blueberry Hill also, reportedly, produces decorative hips but I must be too efficient at dead-heading my bush as I have never noticed. It repeat flowers throughout the season.
Blueberry Hill has exceptionally large, long, pointed buds which I find particularly beautiful. Just check out the photo below. Continue reading
It is quite interesting. When I want to find out information about a rose I intend to feature as Rose of the Week, my first port of call is my books. Sometimes, a rose does not feature at all (the reason may be that it is a recent release or it just may be that there are so many rose cultivars, they can’t all feature). At the other end of the spectrum are the roses that feature in every book. Friesia is one such rose. Continue reading
McLeod’s Daughters blooms are quite specky. They are creamy, apricot double blooms, tinged with a coppery reverse. The mature flower is cup-shaped and has an old world charm that I find appealing. It also has a pleasant, mild fragrance. Continue reading
Cochrane and Passmore in their book, The Rose, claim that Angel Face is possibly the most popular flower in the world. I don’t know about that.
The blooms are dark mauve/lavender that darken with ruby flushes towards the edge. They have up to 40 ruffled petals, open with high centres and become cup-shaped as the firm petals reflex to show yellow stamen. There is a strong, sweet lemon scent. Continue reading
Bonica is one of the most popular modern shrub roses in the world today. It is a firm favourite due to the extraordinary lavishness of its flowers and the health of the bush. If you only have room for one rose, Bonica may just be it. Botanica assertively states: Every garden should have this delightful rose. Continue reading
Geez, I didn’t realise that doing a little spiel on each of my roses would be so difficult. Here is another one that can’t make up its mind whether it is a Hybrid Tea or a Floribunda. The label on my rose says Floribunda but the books say Hybrid Tea. I am going with Floribunda just because it looks like one. Continue reading
Foundation is an attractive orange/apricot rose. It blooms in clusters. The blooms are double with a slightly cupped centre. They have a beautiful frilly look. It is free flowering with healthy glossy foliage and a slight perfume. It grows to about 1 metre tall. It is more or less continuous flowering throughout the year. It is an excellent cut-flower as it lasts well in the vase. Continue reading
I am a pink girl . Every since I was little, pink has been my favourite colour. As a young teen, I painted my bedroom and all my furniture pink (much to my mother’s horror). I also had pink curtains.
In the 70s, I could be seen looking very dapper in my pink and purple coordinates.
As a consequence, pink roses are, hands down, my favourites. I especially love soft pink old world roses. Continue reading
